One label that you’ll commonly see on foods of all types today is “natural.” The fact is, nobody is really sure what this means. We might think it means fewer harmful chemicals, that it’s produced in a simpler way or that it is an organic product.
We’re all looking for easier ways to stay healthy. In today’s busy life, it’s hard to find the time! The products we find in the supermarket are often labeled to help us select better-quality products—but what do those labels really mean? One label that you’ll commonly see on foods of all types today is “natural.” The fact is, nobody is really sure what this means. We might think it means fewer harmful chemicals, that it’s produced in a simpler way or that it is an organic product. In reality, “natural” has no legal definition and can be put on any food products. Buzzwords like natural, simple or simply, GMO-free and free-range could mean there are less harmful effects of that product in some ways. The most important thing is to read the labels and do your research, so you can decide what is best for your family.
Cut asparagus spears in half. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add quinoa; saute 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt and broth; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 15 to 20 minutes or until liquid is absorbed. While quinoa is cooking, add onion, carrots, and asparagus to a skillet with remaining 2 tablespoons oil; saute 3 to 4 minutes. Add vegetables to cooked quinoa; stir in sun-dried tomatoes, beans, and basil. Okay so I’m going to confess something here I love Mama Chia. If you haven’t tried it let me tell you now, you’re either going to really like or you’re gonna find it revolting and let me explain why you might find it revolting.. its the texture. It’s also pretty expensive, at just over $4 a bottle it sure ads up. That’s why I decided to make my own chia drink, MyChia. Chia seeds if you don’t already know provide so many amazing health benefits like having more omega 3’s than salmon, more potassium than bananas, more calcium than milk, and are loaded with antioxidants. They’re a complete protein and, unlike flaxseeds, they are very shelf stable and not prone to going rancidin your pantry. They also can absorb more than 12 times their weight in water/liquid. Okay so how do I make this amazing drink ye may ask well if you’ve never had mama Chia drink before I suggest you only make a tiny bit of this to see if you actually like it. What you want to do is to start with your favorite organic juice, I used an Organic Blueberry Pomegranate juice. OR if you have a juicer, juice your favorite juice blend. You’re going to need about 2 to 3 cups of juice. Next you’re going to need some Chia seeds Chia seeds come in a variety of different colors I just happen to have black and white Chia seeds on hand. So, my magic ratio of seed to liquid is 1/4 cup of seed per 1 cup of liquid. Ok so you’ve got all your ingredients? Ok perfect! :-) now toss the juice and chia seeds in a blender and blend on low/medium for 30 seconds or until mixed. (You can also toss in some fresh or frozen fruit or berries at this time). Now transfer that mixture into a jar or water bottle, put a lid and put in the fridge for about 10 minutes. The mixture will thicken but should still be liquidy. My kids LOVE this stuff as much as I do!
